Member Spotlight Megan Salzberger Stern, AE, Univision Radio
Can you give us a few personal details about your life? I am a Dallas native and an Indiana University graduate. Dallas is home to me - my roots are here. I have been married for 3 years, have a 6 and ½ old month son named Noah and am also a mommy to a golden retriever named Charlie. I have been working in Dallas in the Media Community since the spring of 1997.
How did you get into the industry and what was your first job? I got into the industry because I grew up around it. My first job was at Blair Television here in Dallas. I was a sales assistant. This is where it all started for me. I met so many great people and have had a wonderful learning curve in this industry by starting out there.
What can you tell us about your current job? I do a Job Share with Susan Kretschmar at Univision Radio Dallas. It is amazing to be able to work 3 days a week and be a mom for the other 2 days. The workdays fly by because we are always so busy! I am biased…I think that I have the one of the best products to sell in all of Dallas radio, I have great managers, and I have a great Job Share partner in Susan!
What advice would you give someone new to the industry? If you want to be a successful account executive, stay at your job for at least two years. Stay somewhere, make mistakes, grow, learn and most important: make a name for yourself. Your reputation is something that no one can dispute or take from you.
Have you had a mentor? Many!!!! My dad, Kelly Reeves, and R.J. Lane are the most top of mind! What has been your biggest achievement in your career thus far? For sure the best life achievement is having a baby – then the best career achievement is still being able to work professionally and feel like you have balance in your life with this new responsibility. For me it seems possible to have balance by being in a job share with Susan.
What is the one truth that has held constant throughout your career? I have more than one truth to relay! #1 - Your reputation is everything. If you say you can do something, you have to do it. #2 - Do not promise anyone something that you cannot deliver for your client. It is bad business. #3 - Be honest. #4 - Have integrity. #5 - My husband says, “Shoot straight or shoot yourself.”
Congratulations to Megan!!
Quote of the Month
"Pretend that every single person you meet has a sign around his or her neck that says, ''Make me feel important.'' Not only will you succeed in sales, you will succeed in life."
